Apple Watch Competition Not Updating? Fix Missing Points and Results

Troubleshoot missing Apple Watch competition points, disappeared competitions, delayed updates, and a final score that is still tallying.

If an Apple Watch competition is not updating, first check that both iPhones are online, both people are signed in to their Apple Accounts, and Activity Sharing still shows the other person. Apple says a disconnected iPhone or signed-out Apple Account can cause missing Activity updates. Source: If you can't share your Activity rings.

Do not remove the friend or erase either device as a first step. Start with the symptom below and use the least disruptive check first.

Start with the fastest checks

  1. Connect both iPhones to the internet.
  2. Confirm both people are signed in to their Apple Accounts.
  3. Open Fitness > Sharing on iPhone and confirm the friend is still listed.
  4. Open the Activity app on Apple Watch and check the Sharing view there.
  5. Confirm every Apple Watch paired to the iPhone is running current watchOS.
  6. Restart the affected iPhone and Apple Watch, then reopen Fitness and Activity.

Apple specifically notes that the Sharing tab may disappear when multiple watches are paired to one iPhone and not all of them are updated.

Competition points are not showing or updating

Apple's competition score depends on Activity-ring updates. If the underlying rings or a friend's shared activity are stale, the competition score can also appear stale.

Check whether:

  • today's own Move, Exercise, and Stand rings are updating normally
  • the friend's daily Activity data is visible under Sharing
  • either iPhone was offline for multiple days
  • either person recently signed out of their Apple Account
  • either device is waiting for a software update

Apple documents that missing days can appear when an iPhone cannot connect for multiple days or the user signs out of their Apple Account. Apple does not publish a guaranteed time for delayed competition points to catch up.

Competition disappeared from the Fitness app

First determine whether the entire Sharing tab is missing, the friend is missing, or only the competition is missing.

  • If Sharing is missing, follow the Sharing tab troubleshooting guide.
  • If the friend is missing, the Activity Sharing relationship may need attention.
  • If the friend remains visible but the competition does not, restart and update both devices before removing the friend.

Removing and re-adding a friend is disruptive and may not restore the same competition state. Use Apple's support flow or contact Apple Support before treating it as a routine reset.

Score differs between Apple Watch and iPhone

A short-lived mismatch can mean the two devices have not finished synchronizing. Keep the paired iPhone and Watch connected, open the relevant apps on both devices, and check that the current Activity rings agree before judging the competition total.

If the rings themselves disagree, troubleshoot Activity synchronization first. The competition cannot display a reliable total while its source data is inconsistent.

Waiting on final score or still tallying

Apple's public competition guide explains that the person with the most points after seven days wins, but it does not document a fixed processing time for a waiting on final score or tallying state.

The safest response is to:

  1. Keep both paired iPhones online.
  2. Confirm both people are still signed in.
  3. Open Fitness and allow recent Activity data to synchronize.
  4. Avoid removing the friend while the result is unresolved.
  5. Contact Apple Support if the state persists.

Treat any exact waiting-time promise from an unofficial source as an estimate, not an Apple guarantee.

If the competition never started

That is a different problem. Use Apple Watch competition invite troubleshooting if the invitation is not sending, arriving, or leaving the pending state.

When to contact Apple Support

Contact Apple when current Activity data is visible and synchronized on both devices but the competition remains missing, frozen, or permanently tallying. Include:

  • iPhone model and iOS version for both people
  • Apple Watch model and watchOS version for both people
  • whether Activity Sharing still works
  • the date the score stopped updating
  • screenshots from both Fitness and Activity, with personal details removed
